The Bay Area has a rich tradition of assemblage thanks, in no small part, to the contributions of the Beat artists, who defined the poetics of disposability. It is a tradition that continues today as artists make use of found and discarded objects to reassign meaning through assembly and juxtaposition. What once had definitive purpose is now combined and infused with new meaning relevant to the state of our contemporary affairs and concerns. It is a commentary on contemporary society filtered through the detritus of those that make up that very society.
Exhibiting artists include Renee Billingslea, Jon Kerpel, John Kuzich, Marianne Lettieri, Jeff Owen, Robert Ray and Virginia Ray.
