Annual Giving Fundraiser The Triton Museum's annual end-of-the-year giving fundraiser is underway and we would love your continued support this holiday season. Anything and everything helps! We are wholly supported by the warmth and efforts of our community. Executive Director of the Triton Museum, Preston Metcalf, has penned a letter to you in consideration of us this holiday season. Donation Transparency: What your donations go back to We value transparency. It's important to us that you, as a patron, a member, and/or community partner know what your generous donations go to. Read below to understand more about what your donations do to support us, and how they keep in line with our core values. ART First and foremost, we are an art museum. It is in our name. Donations keep the lights on and give us a place for art, and the artists that create them, to call home. Donations make sure we support our talented artists, keep the art in our collections in good shape, make any repairs we need to make, and continue preserving the quality of what you see on our walls. EDUCATION Artists and lovers of art alike are driven by curiosity and the desire to learn. We love that we can provide a place for that. Donations fund our art workshops for people of all ages. It funds our lectures that not only we put on, but also educators in our community who love what they do. This includes materials and supplies that we provide as well. It also keeps venues on our property like the Linn Studio for our workshops here with us. COMMUNITY Finally, everything comes back to community. Donations allow us to keep our admissions free to the public. It also allows us, and our venues, to be a space where you can hold events for your special moments. Donations help us put on community events for our patrons, members, and their families. It also helps us to continue thinking up more ways to be a better part of your community. Everything Helps. Backpacks are not permitted in the galleries and may be stored behind the front desk at your own risk. The museum is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items. For 58 years, our art museum has been a destination for the community, providing a venue where local artists exhibit their work alongside regional and national artists, and where students of all ages learn about art and the creative process through art workshops and art lectures. Frequently Asked Questions FAQs 01 How can I make my work known to the Curatorial Team at the Triton Museum of Art? Artists may send examples of their work or exhibition proposals, or share their work with the Triton Museum of Art by email only to vcallanta@tritonmuseum.org . Please send no more than ten images. Please send images as an attachment. Very high resolution images may be difficult to upload. Do not imbed the images in the email. Emails with embedded images will not be opened. Artists may also direct attention to artist’s websites for curatorial review. The Museum will retain on file the addresses and emails of artists of interest for future reference. All inquiries are reviewed and retained on file for future reference, however, due to the high volume of emails, we are unable to respond to all inquiries. 02 I have a beautiful piece of art that I would like to donate. We invite you to read selected novels about art or famous artists before we meet, and then join us on the first Wednesday morning of each month, for an art history presentation about that month’s novel, the portrayed artist, and related art, as presented by Triton Museum Executive Director Preston Metcalf and Triton Museum Associate Curator Vanessa Callanta. Book Club Monthly meetings on the first Wednesdays of each month 9:30 - 10:30 AM PST at the Triton Museum of Art. Tolkien created a series of literary masterworks, including The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, in which he created imagined worlds as commentary on the state of war-torn humanity, and thus became the father of modern fantasy. Becoming one of the best selling series of books ever, Tolkien’s imagined worlds not only redefined fantasy literature, but became the inspiration for a new wave of visual fantasy artists for the next hundred years. In this lecture, Triton Curator Vanessa Callanta will show us the rise of Fantasy art inspired by Tolkien, and expanded upon by artists such as Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, and many others in the 20th, and now 21st Centuries.
