Annual Giving Fundraiser The Triton Museum's annual end-of-the-year giving fundraiser is underway and we would love your continued support this holiday season. Anything and everything helps! We are wholly supported by the warmth and efforts of our community. Executive Director of the Triton Museum, Preston Metcalf, has penned a letter to you in consideration of us this holiday season. Donation Transparency: What your donations go back to We value transparency. It's important to us that you, as a patron, a member, and/or community partner know what your generous donations go to. Read below to understand more about what your donations do to support us, and how they keep in line with our core values. ART First and foremost, we are an art museum. It is in our name. Donations keep the lights on and give us a place for art, and the artists that create them, to call home. Donations make sure we support our talented artists, keep the art in our collections in good shape, make any repairs we need to make, and continue preserving the quality of what you see on our walls. EDUCATION Artists and lovers of art alike are driven by curiosity and the desire to learn. We love that we can provide a place for that. Donations fund our art workshops for people of all ages. It funds our lectures that not only we put on, but also educators in our community who love what they do. This includes materials and supplies that we provide as well. It also keeps venues on our property like the Linn Studio for our workshops here with us. COMMUNITY Finally, everything comes back to community. Donations allow us to keep our admissions free to the public. It also allows us, and our venues, to be a space where you can hold events for your special moments. Donations help us put on community events for our patrons, members, and their families. It also helps us to continue thinking up more ways to be a better part of your community. Everything Helps. < Back Stephanie Metz SEPT 14 - DEC 29 In the Glow Stephanie Metz is an accomplished Bay Area fiber arts sculptor. She has an affinity for the natural world, which is often echoed through her artistic creations. Her artwork is created through a sense of curiosity and her desire to explore the meaning of things around her. The Triton is pleased to present a new body of Metz's work in her exhibition In the Glow which will combine smaller works with a large scale immersive installation, specially created for the Cowell Room gallery. Artist Statement: I use fiber media to sculpt solid, freestanding forms that embody the complex experiences of womanhood within contemporary American culture. Created from wool fibers needle-felted into intricate, robust, writhing shapes or meticulously stitched from pieces of thick, smooth wool felt, my sculptures evoke the female form rendered in soft, tactile media to engage viewers on multiple sensory and intellectual levels. Current works incorporate subtle reflections of intense pink pigment, a color laden with cultural significance long associated with femininity. The organic forms I create are seductively approachable yet mildly alarming; they serve as vessels for exploring the multifaceted nature of living in a female-identifying body—a spectrum encompassing strength and vulnerability, the beautiful and the grotesque, pain and resilience, control and the lack of agency. "Soft power" refers to persuasion through indirect or non-confrontational means; it captures the way I learned to navigate my world as a girl growing up in 1980s America, as well as my visually alluring approach to feminist topics in a world that still undervalues women. I want to be part of the dialog that ushers in a future in which gender equality, positive body images, reproductive rights, and sexual empowerment are the norm. My sculpture invites audiences to reconsider their preconceptions and assumptions, fostering a sense of shared connection within the larger human experience through a visceral, visual language. Who We Are For 60 years, the Triton Museum of Art has been a destination for the community, providing a venue where local artists exhibit their work alongside regional and national artists and where students of all ages learn about art and the creative process. Located across the street from the Santa Clara Civic Center, the Triton Museum of Art collects and exhibits contemporary and historical works with an emphasis on artists of the Greater Bay Area. Our Roots The Triton Museum of Art was founded by rancher, lawyer, and art patron W. Robert Morgan and his wife June in San Jose, California, in 1965. It was the first non-university art museum in the county. Less than two years after its opening, the Triton Museum moved to its current location within the City of Santa Clara. Exhibitions and programs were held in four pavilions surrounded by a seven-acre park. Due to the tremendous economic and population growth of the Santa Clara Valley during the 1970s, a new facility was built to serve the changing needs of the community. Construction for the current facility was completed in October 1987. The 22,000-square-foot space features high ceilings, pyramidal skylights, and dramatic lighting. The spacious design of the building was created for versatile exhibition presentation as well as an aesthetically pleasing experience for museum visitors.

< Back California Society of Printmakers AUG 30 - JAN 11 Expanding the Field; New Ideas in and Beyond Print The California Society of Printmakers is America’s oldest non-profit, member-run, printmaking organization. This exhibition will be a curated selection of works from artists across the United States; this is an opportunity for the selected artists to showcase their most innovative and evolving creations. In the national call for artists, entrants are highly encouraged to conceptualize works beyond the traditional bounds of printmaking - to embody structures that expand beyond the paper’s edge, extend off the wall, interlocks, and even express in multiples - telling a great story. Artist Statement: For this exhibition, Expanding the Field; New Ideas in and Beyond Print, artists have been invited to submit work that incorporates any form of hand pulled printmaking, with end results including, but not limited to: large scale print work, innovative/experimental print techniques, modular assemblages, installation, sculptural elements, art book constructions, two-dimensional prints, and more. The juror for this exhibition, Monique Martin, is an internationally recognized, multidisciplinary artist from Saskatoon, Canada with a 25-year exhibition history who has exhibited her artwork in hundreds of significant solo, invited, and juried exhibitions in numerous countries.
