Enter an expedition with watercolors and watercolor pencils while using a brush, palette knife, and pen and ink! Students will also play with everyday items, such as tea for creating a marbled work of art, or salt to add texture to their works. Please contact education@tritonmuseum.org On Your Instructor Jeff Bramschreiber Jeff Bramschreiber has been drawing and painting for over forty years, and while he is primarily a pastelist, he also frequently works in acrylic, watercolor, silverpoint, most dry media and even airbrush. His artworks hang in private collections throughout the United States and Europe and have received many awards. A local art advocate, he has served as an art club president, (East Valley Artists and Santa Clara Art Association), as a juror with nearly fifty shows to his credit, as treasurer and lecturer for Silicon Valley Open Studios, as a demonstrator and lecturer for many of the Bay Area art clubs, colleges and museums. Jeff also worked at University Art San Jose for 21 years before its closing in 2018 as an assistant Manager, Frame Designer, and Community Art Liaison. Mr. Bramschreiber has also helped coordinate, organize, and participate in numerous local art shows, group shows and events throughout his career. Currently he is an exhibiting and “live paint” artist at Kaleid Gallery in Downtown San Jose; Jeff is also an art instructor for the Triton Museum of Art, The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, and The Villages Arts and Crafts Association.

Book Club Monthly meetings on the first Wednesdays of each month 9:30 - 10:30 AM PST at the Triton Museum of Art. (doors open at 9:00 a.m. for coffee and donuts; presentation begins at 9:30 a.m.) We invite you to read selected novels about art or famous artists before we meet, and then join us on the first Wednesday morning of each month, for an art history presentation about that month’s novel, the portrayed artist, and related art, as presented by Triton Museum Executive Director Preston Metcalf and Triton Museum Associate Curator Vanessa Callanta. Learn how the novel does — or doesn’t — comport to the actual history of its subject, and hear more about the artwork and the artists’ times in which they were created. Admission to the monthly book club art history lectures is free for Triton Museum of Art Members ($5 donation requested for non-members), and all are welcome, whether you have actually read the book or not. DOWNLOAD OPENING SOON This Upcoming Month's Book: Hamlet: Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare January 8th, 2025 In the 16th and early 17th Centuries, our view of humanity, and what it means to be human, were irrevocably changed, in no small part due to three great creators: William Shakespeare, Michel de Montaigne, and Michelangelo. Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a classic tragedy that delves into themes of revenge, corruption, madness, betrayal, and family ties. This play follows the story of Prince Hamlet of the Kingdom of Denmark who is struggling to move forward after the sudden death of his father, King Hamlet. The play conveys Hamlet's internal and external struggles as his suspicions of how his father died begin to unravel before him. Throughout the play, Hamlet's various actions and inactions delve into the complexities of morality, vengeance, and justice. Join us as the Triton Museum's Executive Director, Preston Metcalf, shows how Hamlet, Montaigne’s Essays, and Michelangelo’s David changed the way we see ourselves, and in doing so, altered the portrayal of the human in art and literature from then on.

EXHIBITION Identity Theft and Beyond Chukes DATES: JAN 20 - APR 14 YEAR: 2024 Previously on view in the Warburton Gallery < Back OVERVIEW ADDITIONAL INFORMATION My creative journey started in Northern California in the early 1960’s. I was born in Vallejo, California and my family moved to San Jose, California when I was a year old. I grew up during the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, amidst the free-thinking Flower Children, Vietnam War, the killings of Black Power leaders and the assassination of a U.S. President. Even while all this was happening right at my doorstep, my childhood was a wonderland of creativity with no one in authority censoring my artistic freedom and thoughts. My parents did an incredible job of keeping our family safe yet always informed us of the impending dangers from the world around us! As I grew older, I began to understand the importance of a using my art as a meaningful educational and historical tool. The concept of the Identity Theft body of work started in 2016 where I witnessed and experienced the unprecedented televised violence on people of color. My social conscious could not be restrained and soon after my artistic instincts kicked in. I began to create this work based on a multitude of dreams and visions. As an African American living and working in Southern California, I am bound to my African roots. Each work of art expresses the importance of understanding my history, and the origins of creativity and knowledge. This exhibition counteracts the negative stereotypes that have led so many races to believe they have contributed nothing of importance to humanity. As I look back at my own family history, as well as researching world history, I reflected on what I have and have not been taught about myself, and other people and cultures of the world. This work is my artistic representation of what happens when people or nations of people are stripped of their indigenous identity and re-taught a history that historically filters the truth and presents an incorrect version of past and present injustices. This filtered history, as I call it, is being used against us as a weapon of self-destruction. Our existence on this planet depends on our perceptions and understanding of one another. An incorrect version of history should be viewed as a crime against humanity. The art in this exhibit reflects my truth! Here we are in the 21st century and it feels as if the world is going backwards. In today’s societies, vast numbers of people are becoming increasingly fearful to speak up and act against senseless hate crimes and injustices. Like so many others, I too have been personally victimized by racial ignorance. Instead of reacting through violence, I have chosen to use my artistic voice to speak out against hate. This exhibit also includes new and unseen works that is a continuation of Identity Theft. We must start conversations that include all voices and races. There is no time limit in creating the truth! I want to capture moments when people show their real character and mood which are normally hidden behind the mask they put on in public. My painting is also about story telling. I try to tell stories that show the hidden truth which reflects people's relationship, their living condition, their mental state, their interests, and other aspects of their disposition in the world.
