Bassett / Bradford: In Conversation
Richard Bassett and Donald Bradford began their personal and professional relationship in 1998. Working in adjoining studios in the Bay Area, the two artists developed an ongoing dialogue that informed both their individual practices.
Bassett’s conceptually driven work explored systems, materials, repetition and the passage of time through meticulous processes and carefully constructed forms. Bradford’s practice centered on narrative imagery, gesture, movement and the expressive possibilities of paint.
Their shared exchange of ideas and techniques created a dialogue between distinct approaches to art-making: Bassett’s measured investigation of materials and time, and Bradford’s dynamic engagement with movement and representation. Together their work reveals a sustained creative relationship in which each artist’s practice became a source of inspiration and discovery for the other.
