Triton Online: Acrylic Painting Using a Knife and Brush (Pt. 2) Jeff Bramshreiber Monday Nights from 5:30pm to 7:30pm; September 4th through October 16th, 2023 Develop and grow your drawing skills using a knife and brush. Gain community and level up your skills from the comfort of your own home! Whether you are a novice or an experienced artist, this theme-based course is perfect for all artistic levels! About the Instructor: Jeff Bramshreiber Jeff Bramschreiber has been drawing and painting for over forty years, and while he is primarily a pastelist, he also frequently works in acrylic, watercolor, silverpoint most dry media and even airbrush. His artworks hang in private collections throughout the United States and Europe and have received many awards. A local art advocate, he has served as an art club president, (East Valley Artists and Santa Clara Art Association), as a juror with nearly fifty shows to his credit, as treasurer and lecturer for Silicon Valley Open Studios, as a demonstrator and lecturer for many of the Bay Areas’ art clubs, colleges and museums. Jeff also worked at University Art San Jose for 21 years before its closing in 2018 as an assistant Manager, Frame Designer, and Community Art Liaison. Mr. Bramschreiber has also helped coordinate, organize, and participate in numerous local art shows, group shows and events throughout his career. Currently he is President of the Board of Trustees for the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, an exhibiting and “live paint” artist at Kaleid Gallery in Downtown San Jose; Jeff is also an art instructor for the Triton Museum of Art , The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, The Pacific Art League and The Villages Arts and Crafts Association. < Back Year of the Horse: Lunar Painting Workshop (Teens and Adults, Ages 13+) Price $26 per person Location Triton Museum of Art Dates Sunday, March 8th, 2026 from 1:00PM-3:00PM Duration 1 Day Enroll About the Course As a symbol of bravery and strength, the Horse has been depicted in visual art since prehistoric times. Art Educator Mei-Ying Dell’Aquila will guide you in creating your own Horse painting inspired by the style of Franz Marc and Expressionism. All materials provided! Required Materials: As this is a painting class, please wear clothes that you are comfortable wearing around acrylic paint, as well as comfortable shoes for walking. A portion of this workshop will be spent outside. (Optional: Bring an apron for painting) All other materials will be provided for use during the workshop. Objectives: Learn about the composition and anatomy of the horse. Encourage creativity and imagination. Learn about bright colors and use of brushstrokes in Expressionism. Observe sculptures on the Triton Museum grounds for inspiration. Triton Museum History: The iconic Morgan Horse sculpture in front of the Triton Museum was commissioned by our museum’s founder, Robert Morgan, whose favorite horse was also named Triton. Primarily working in oils, her work has been exhibited in solo and juried shows in museums and galleries throughout the US, including the de Young Museum in San Francisco, CA and the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay, Oregon. Mei-Ying holds a Master of Arts degree from San Francisco State University and is the former owner and teacher at My Art School, an afterschool art program she ran for 25 years in Cupertino. As an educator, she encourages students to become the best they can be through promoting “self-empowerment to take charge and change the world for the better.” This legacy can be seen in her own paintings, which depict strong, confident figures and dynamism. < Back Mark Engel AUG 16 - JAN 4 Shifting Terrain Mark Engel is a figurative painter whose practice investigates the body as a site of transformation, perception, and psychological depth. Drawing on themes of connection, involution, and the fluid nature of selfhood, Engel constructs layered compositions that merge the figure with elements of landscape, gesture, and abstraction. His paintings explore the tension between form and dissolution, using fragmentation and distortion to reflect transitional states and the porous boundaries between interior and exterior experience. Engel’s approach is rooted in process and intuition. Each composition unfolds through cycles of addition and subtraction, allowing unconscious associations and emotional resonance to emerge. By balancing structure with flux, his work invites reflection on the instability of identity in a world shaped by constant change and relational complexity. He has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions, including Shapeshifters at Know Future Gallery, Constellations at Vargas Gallery, and group shows at Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art, Limner Gallery in New York, and 33 Contemporary Gallery in Chicago. His work has been featured in Create! Magazine, Artsin Square, and Curatory Magazine. Engel is a professor at Mission College in Santa Clara, California, and has contributed to arts education through teaching residencies and faculty exhibitions. His ongoing exploration of the figure offers a visual language for the complexities of becoming. Artist Statement: I use the human figure as a central motif to explore themes of connection, transformation, and involution. My work revolves around the ever-changing motion of selfhood and explores the dynamic interplay between external forces and internal experiences. Process is an essential component in my work, and I build compositions that combine the figure with landscape, fragmentation, distortion, and gesture to reflect transitional states. Relying heavily on intuition, I feel my way through each composition by adding and subtracting elements to arrive at an image that is broader than my conscious awareness and infuses the work with a deeper level of meaning. I strive to find a balance between retaining form and dissolving into abstraction to capture the fluid nature of becoming and soften the boundaries between self and other. Previous Next

These colors have a very strong impact on my personality and paintings as they remind me of my cultural background. My art is inspired by nature therefore I see my reflection in leaves, trees and branches that changes modes and colors with the seasons. I use a various limited color palette for each painting to depict different moods of nature. Through variations of lines, layers and color palette, I explore the sensitivity and delicacy of changing seasons. Some paintings reveal the beauty of spring and fall and some impression of summer and winter. I arrange my composition by depicting organic forms, lines, colors, drips and brush strokes. On my painting surface, I look for interesting organic shapes and capture them. I explore the relationship between the loose marks and the developed shapes. My lyrical lines add a rhythm though out the piece. I leave the evidence of the painting process by adding translucent layers on top of each other. I add drips to ease the tension between shapes and colors. By adding the energy of brush strokes, I guide the viewer’s eye to each corner of the painting. The exploration of different shapes and marks continues to evolve until I reach the veiling process. The veil adds daintiness, softness and tranquility to the overall look. "Art is one of the languages from our souls" (author unknown) The above statement resonates between my heart and my brain as I pick up a brush, dip it into water and then my palette and then onto the paper or canvas before me. Inspirational music flows in the background, awakening my senses and then I begin... So much of my art comes from past experiences. When I was younger, I climbed most of the High Sierra Peaks in Yosemite. As a result, a lifelong interest and passion was developed, to study the formations and paint the summits of many of the mountain ranges on our planet. We have a home near the ocean. So again, I am able to study the changing moods of the ocean and the cliffs that provide the boundaries for the waves to reach their destinations and dissipate. Flowers are another subject I love to study. Their shapes and sizes, their breathtaking beauty and what about the colors and shadings of their petals, that nature has created? Simply amazing! Young children, especially my grand-babies, are so fresh and innocent, when you catch them in their curious poses. Abstract art fascinates me. I love to explore colors and shapes and some of my outcomes have been exciting. However, there have also been disasters, which I accept as a learning process. In summation, I have been fortunate to study abroad and here in the United States with acknowledged and prize-winning artists: Tom Nichols, Robbie Laird, Jane Hofstetter, Dales Laitinen, Stephen Quiller and Gerald Brommer, to name a few.
